CAN in Automation (CiA) e. V. is the international users' and manufacturers' group for Controller Area Network (CAN). The non-profit association was founded in 1992 and is supported by about 630 members, CiA' members develop CAN-based higher- Iayer protocols, e.g. CANopen and device profiles. CiA representatives participate in international standardization bodies (IEC and ISO).
Since 22 years CiA publishes CANopen specifications, e.g. CiA 301 specifies the CANopen application layer. CiA 402 profile specifies the CANopen interface of power drive systems. CiA 601 series specifies and recommends the usage of CAN FD hardware implementations.
CiA provides devise seminars for development engineers, system designers, and technical decision-makers. Attendees receive basic information on CAN/CAN FD or CANopen.
CANopen device conformance testing is used to determine whether CANopen devices comply with the requirements of CiA 301 "CANopen application layer and communication profile" specification. CANopen interoperability testing is a CANopen network compatibility testing to determine whether CANopen devices can be integrated into a CANopen network and perform their function without causing any communication problems.
