The Deutschmann Protocol Converter UNIGATE MB connects your device to the desired fieldbus or Industrial Ethernet standard via a serial interface.
RS232, RS485 and RS422 interfaces are on board as a standard feature. The communication between the chosen bus system and the serial side can be carried out via Modbus RTU, Modbus ASCII as well as other common bus systems such as 3964(R).
UNIGATE IC bus nodes relieve automation manufacturers from having to develop interfaces,thereby help them offer products for various protocols with little one-time development effort. The bus nodes in a 32 DIL housing have been designed for embedded solutions for direct integration into terminal devices. The modules comprise a microcontroller, flash, RAM, and a bus Controller. They handle the complete communication on the bus side, thus reducing the workload of the application's microprocessor.
The Protocol Converter connects devices via their serial interfaces with the desired Fieldbus or Industrial Ethernet standard. RS232, RS485 and RS422 interfaces are on Board as a standard feature. The communication between serial side and bus takes place through device configuration and a selection of commercially available protocols, such as Modbus ASCII, Modbus RTU (Master or slave), 3964 (R), RK512, DIN measuring bus, DIN 19244. More complex applications can be controlled by a script.

Deutschmann Automation: UNIGATE CX - the flexible gateway series with numerous functions. The industrial DIN rail modules support almost any combination of different, common fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet interfaces to connect incompatible networks. The improved functionality applies above all to CANopen and CAN Layer 2 bus systems.
For CANopen, a mapping for communication object identifiers (COB-IDs) is available, which enables the illustration of data of one fieldbus to any other fieldbus, i.e. the individual copying of process data, is possible. All data provided by the corresponding fieldbuses can be used as output data. The mapping works in both directions, i.e. from master to slave and vice versa. For example, it can be defined that the 2nd byte of the COB-ID201 (CANopen® participant) is transferred into the fieldbus data as 7th byte. In addition to mapping for COB-IDs, the functions node guarding, EMCY messages and mapping of SDO objects are also supported.
For CAN Layer 2, configurable protocols are available, which can be used to transfer CAN data one-to-one (1:1) to a fieldbus. In addition, it is also possible to filter COB-IDs so that only these CAN data are transferred 1:1 to a fieldbus.
The UNIGATE CX gateways can be configured quickly with the WINGATE software developed by Deutschmann Automation. For complex applications, programming of a script is preferred. For this purpose, the Deutschmann Protocol Developer tool is provided free of charge.
Deutschmann Automation’s modular UNIGATE CX gateway series integrates two UNIGATE CL modules. More than 120 fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet interface variants are possible, e.g. PROFIBUS DP to PROFINET, CANopen to EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP to PROFINET.
The powerful UNIGATE IC2 series can be installed directly into a terminal device or sensor system. The integrated ARM Cortex-M4 processor ensures fast communication.
With the embedded solution UNIGATE IC2, data can be processed at high speed and quickly be transferred to the customer’s application. The UART interface achieves baud rates of up to 7.5 MBaud. The SPI bus allows a transfer rate of 12 Mbit/s in master operation and 10 Mbit/s in slave operation.
The protocol connection between the UNIGATE IC2 module and the terminal device is implemented via a proprietary script, which is created in the script language developed by Deutschmann Automation in house. For programming the script, Deutschmann provides the free Protocol Developer tool. Execution time of a script line is about 10 µs. With the UNIGATE IC2 embedded series, the script execution time can be reduced by a factor of 50 to 80, compared to predecessor models from Deutschmann Automation’s proven UNIGATE IC series. Simple scripts can be executed in just a few microseconds.
Deutschmann Automation’s compatible embedded series UNIGATE IC and UNIGATE IC2 offer a wide range of different fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet communication modules, which are developed and manufactured in Germany.
